The Cedar Rapids River Kings and Head Coach Mark Stoute have decided to part ways following the 2019 IFL season, effective immediately.

“Coach Stoute and I have talked a number of times since the end of the season,” River Kings General Manager Reggie Harris said. “We have mutually agreed to look at other opportunities at the Head Coach position in Cedar Rapids for the 2020 season.”

Stoute is the winningest coach in franchise history, amassing a 42-30 record in Cedar Rapids. He coached the then-Titans to four straight playoff bids from 2013-16, going 1-4 in playoff games before departing Cedar Rapids. He made stops in Jacksonville and Nebraska before returning to the franchise prior to the 2019 season. Stoute went just 1-13 in his return to Cedar Rapids.

The River Kings will conduct a national search to replace Stoute.

“We have started a search process that we hope to complete quickly so we are in a position to build a winning team for next season,” Harris said. “Our intent is to bring someone who can recruit well and has experience competing for, and winning, championships.”

Stoute will look for more football opportunities in his home state of Connecticut.

“We wish him well in his endeavors and appreciate what he did for us this season.”
